On Monday, Oct. 3, the Braves golf team (2-2) fell to the Lake Nona Lions but earned a victory against the Timber Creek Wolves in their second to last regular season match.
Taking the lead for the team, junior Nicholas Bessire started the match with a birdie for hole one (par 4). He followed that by paring the next four holes, then boggied hole 6 (par 4). Bessire finished with a birdie on hole nine (par 5) to finish with a 34. Bessire earned the “lowest man” title for hitting the lowest score of the match.
Starting off a little rocky, senior Charles Eakins had a rough hole one but picked it up with two pars back-to-back on holes two (par 4) and three (par 4). Eakins continued his match with a birdie on hole seven (par 4), and then a par on hole eight (par 3). On hole nine Eakins earned a birdie to end the match with a 41.
Junior Mason Toben started a little rough, but picked it up to head in to hole five one under for the match. Tobey finished with a 41.
Finishing up for the Braves, sophomores Justin Davis and Colin Smith boggied hole one. Freshman Gavin Giglio parred hole 3 (par 4). Then on hole five (par 3) Davis parred. Giglio hit a perfect drive straight down the fairway on the seventh. Lastly, Davis scored 44, the final one to be counted for the team.
The boys ended with a combined score of 160 which awarded them second place. They beat the Wolves by six points, but fell three points shy of beating the Lions.
Fans can support the boys golf team in the first round of FHSAA District play at Rio Pinar Country Club on Oct. 10.
