On Wednesday, April 5, the boys’ (6-4) and girls’ (6-4) tennis teams traveled to Winter Park High School to take on the Wildcats in their final regular season matches.
To kick off the match, Winter Park made the home team decision to play the doubles matches and line five singles first and then lines one through four afterward, where typically matches began with lines one through four, followed by line five and doubles.
In girls’ doubles, line one team, juniors Gracyn Lindborg and Grace McCarey, lost 1-8 along with the line two team, junior Mia Murphy and sophomore Kiara Rodriguez, who also fell short 1-8 to the Wildcats. The boys’ line one doubles team, seniors Matthew Workman and Nicolas Alfert, worked the court 8-3. In line two doubles, freshmen Robert McDonald and Brandon Bartos finished 2-8.
For the girls’ singles matches, line five senior Catherine Mendoza ended 2-8. After Mendoza, line two McCarey and line four Murphy closed out their respective matches 1-8, while line three Rodriguez suffered an 0-8 loss. To close out the girls’ singles, line one Lindborg played an intense match, falling short 3-8.
On the adjacent courts, boys’ line five sophomore Colin Smith and line four Bartos lost their respective matches 2-8. In line three, McDonald ended his match 1-8. Line one Alfert and line two Workman each battled game by game with their opponents, concluding in final scores with just two game margins. Workman grabbed the first singles win of the match 8-6 and Alfert fell short at 7-9, concluding the match.
To close out their regular seasons, the boys’ and girls tennis team fell to Winter Park, 2-5 and 0-7, respectfully.
