On Thursday, Feb. 16, the boys’ and girls’ tennis teams took on the Colonial Grenadiers at home to kick off their seasons.

In singles matches, the boys swept the court as senior returners Nicholas Alfert, line one, and Matthew Workman, line two, crushed their opponents, 6-0. In addition to the seniors, freshman Robert McDonald, line three, added another shutout to the boys’ record, 6-0. Both freshman Brandon Bartos, line four, and sophomore Colin Smith, line five, closed out singles with wins, 6-1 and 6-0, respectively.

In the girls’ individual sets, junior Gracyn Lindborg, line one, kicked off her match, 6-1 and junior Grace McCarey, line two, dominated, 6-0. Continuing the trend, senior Amy Birmingham, line three, served up another win, 6-1. Sophomore Kiara Rodriguez, line four, and junior Mia Murphy, line five, broke down their opponents, 6-0, terminating the singles matches.

To add to the teams’ singles dominations, Lindborg and sophomore Pettia Petrov defeated Colonial’s girls doubles team, 6-0. Freshman Mia Lim and junior Keisha Vargas also won, 6-1. For the boys, Smith and Bartos slayed their match, adding another 6-0 victory and completing doubles play.

In the end, the boys team trumped the Grenadiers with a 6-0 shutout, while the girls followed suit, 7-0, bringing both teams to a (1-0) record to start their seasons.

Both teams seek another victory next Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 3 p.m. on the Reservation over the Cypress Creek Bears.
