With summer coming and students look for things to do, Astro Skate Family Fun Center offers a great place to hang out with family and friends and provides an environment full of friendly staff, good music and interactive games.

Admission prices vary from $1 to $8 depending on the day. Skates rentals are $3. Choices include: regular four wheel skates, or inline rollerblades.

Astro Skate offers  skate trainers ($5) to help inexperienced attendees learn how to skate.

Handrails go around most of the rink if one encounters difficulty with skating. As more people arrive later in the night, the building becomes crowded so handrails allow people to dodge others without falling.

Twilight sessions occur throughout the evening. At this time the DJ turn off all the lights for a couple songs and skaters can appreciate the glow-in-the-dark surroundings under a disco ball and fluorescent strobe lights. These fun sessions, although short in duration for safety precautions, enhance the galaxy theme experience.

In addition to the fun glow-in-the dark skating sessions, the DJ also conducts interactive mini games for people of all ages. The mini games include races, a hokey pokey dance contest for smaller children, and a backwards skate session for more experienced skaters. Winners of games get candy and other fun prizes.

The mini games take up some of the skating time, especially on Sundays since the rink closes at 8 p.m. This proves disappointing to those who want to solely skate, but have to wait until the games finish.

In terms of food, Astro Skate has a concession with snacks and refreshments. They also offer a small arcade and a gift shop with candy, toys and roller skates.

The monthly schedule includes different activities on different days. Sundays offer $1 skate from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and then a hip hop skate from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The hip hop skate includes a playlist with classic hip-hop throwbacks and latest hits.

Overall, Astro Skate’s music, the customer service and games make for an enjoyable outing with family and friends. Astro Skate definitely provides a well maintained facility, with decent prices that people of all ages can enjoy.
