The girls swimming team overcame the Lake Nona Lions on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at Wadeview Pool. Right off the blocks, the team in lane 3 starring seniors Victoria Pratt and Cardinal Hastings and juniors Valerie Campanelie and Chloe Conyers took first place in the 200 medley relay (1:57.56).
As the meet continued, the team persevered. Junior Eleanor McDonald, on her birthday, placed first in the 200 freestyle (2:13.39).
In the 200 individual medley the Lady Braves continued to place with C. Hastings taking second place (2:33.13). In the next race, the 50 freestyle, Pratt stole first (25.34) with time to spare.
Following the 50 freestyle, the girls really ramped up their competition and swept the scoreboard in the 100 butterfly with Campanelie in first (1:04.72), C. Hastings in second (1:07.39) and sophomore Katia Marcus finished in third (1:23.53).
The meet surged on with Conyers placing first (58.38) and junior Grace McGee placing second (1:05.09) in the 100 freestyle. McDonald made waves swimming 5:53.84 in the 500 freestyle. It took her roughly 27.69 to swim each of the 20 total laps.
The team continued to impose their strength and sense of teamwork in the 200 freestyle relay with Campanelie, McDonald, sophomore River Hastings and Conyers bringing home first place (1:46.00).
Pratt, in the spotlight again, placed first in the 100 backstroke (1:02.63) with a 15.0 lead and sophomore Sydney Chamberlain took second (1:17.19).
As the meet came to a close, Campanelie took first (1:16.39) and R. Hastings placed third (1:22.88) in the 100 breaststroke. In the last race of the meet the team mustered their strength and pulled through with both first and second place in the 400 freestyle relay.
The swim team beat Lake Nona 106-64. Come out and support the swim team at their next meet against Winter Park, Oviedo and Montverde on Sept. 10 at 9 a.m. at Winter Park High School.
