Homecoming week begins on Tuesday, following a Monday Teacher Workday.

Student Government Association chose an array of dress up days and allowed the student body to choose the three themes that seemed most intriguing. SGA announced the winning dress up days through a Twitter announcement.

“We felt like giving the students the opportunity to vote on dress up days made the decision more representative of the population and ensured the students that their ideas were heard,” Student Body Secretary Ashley Bell said.

On Tuesday, for Disney Day, SGA encourages students to dress as their favorite Disney characters. Individual outfit ideas include Captain Hook, Moana and Mickey Mouse. For group coordination, the Seven Dwarfs and the Winnie the Pooh ensemble demonstrate viable options. Students cannot wear masks or revealing costumes.

Rivalry Day, on Wednesday, showcases popular rivals, like DC v. Marvel superheroes and University of Florida v. Florida State University. SGA encourages students to dress with a friend group. However, the officers advise against wearing anything culturally insensitive and anything that would spark political tension.

Students can either dress up as a character from Peter Pan or wear pajamas for Dreaming of Neverland Day on Thursday. However, students must remain in dress code and cannot wear slippers or slides.

Finally, on Friday, freshmen, sophomores and juniors wear crazy orange and white attire, while seniors wear togas. SGA reminds students that they must wear a shirt and shorts under their togas.

For class competition, each class will decorate a planter, with inspiration from Neverland. However, Student Body will not decorate a planter, as the construction on the 300 building blocks access to the fifth planter. Instead, student body members will assist other classes with their designs.

For more school spirit, Braves Brawl, the annual skit competition will begin Wednesday night. Each skit will incorporate the homecoming theme, Neverland.

“My favorite part of homecoming week is Braves Brawl. I think it’s really cool to see all the creativity our students offer and the skits are hilarious,” Bell said.

The kickball tournament is Thursday. The event will consist of three games: seniors v. freshmen, sophomores v. juniors and the final round will include the winners of each of those games.

The club parade begins at 4 p.m. on Friday in the junior, senior parking lot.

“[My favorite part of planning the club float] is seeing how much of the theme we can include in the float while still keeping the club identity,” Young Republicans club sponsor Michael Hibbard said.

The football team will face the Winter Park Wildcats at home for the homecoming game.

“I am looking forward to seeing all the students and their families come out to support our football team. The energy in the stands is always crazy,” senior Kaitlin Michaels said.

SGA encourages students to participate in as many activities as they can before the homecoming dance on Saturday.
