On Thursday, March 5, the Lady Braves lacrosse team defeated Edgewater, after leading throughout the entire game.
Within minutes of the start of the game, Edgewater made a series of quick passes that led to the first goal of the game. But not for long because senior Madison Barnett recovered fast and placed a point on the board for the Lady Braves.
Junior Kaitlyn Driskell scored her first goal of the game, resulting in the Braves taking the lead. Soon after the play, sophomore Emily Darr swooped in and slammed in another goal.
Edgewater made a fast counter attack, and scored another goal making the score 3-2. But sophomore Madalyn Benton wouldn’t have it and put in a goal of her own. Following the play, senior Dora Muratovic played some great defense to keep the Edgewater offense on the other half.
Recovering from her great defensive effort, Muratovic quickly got the ball back and scored her first goal of the game. This left the score going into halftime 5-2.
With the beginning of the second half, Barnett came out ready to win and scored her second goal. Not far behind, freshman Madeline Bogan whipped in a goal after making a dash down the center of the field, creating a 7-2 score.
In an effort to try and keep up, Edgewater shot the ball, but goalkeeper senior Rachel Rector blocked it out. Edgewater fought back and put in four more swift goals, leading to a 7-6 score.
After the four devastating Edgewater goals, Darr and Barnett got fired up and made several passes downfield and Barnett launched in her third goal of the night. Following a failed Edgewater offensive play, Darr thrust in yet another goal, bringing the score to 9-6.
Edgewater scored again, but Darr was there once again and put in her third goal of the game. As the clock ran down, Edgewater scored another goal, but the Lady Braves ensured that was their last. The Lady Braves defeated Edgewater, 10-8.
The Lady Braves next lacrosse game is March 11 at Timber Creek High School at 7:30 p.m.
