The girl’s swimming team was victorious over the Ocoee Knights on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Wadeview Pool. The team started senior night off right raising the energy with their cheering tradition.
In the first heat of the meet, seniors Victoria Pratt and Cardinal Hastings and juniors Valerie Campanelie and Chloe Conyers placed first in the 200 medley relay (2:01.27). With the team in lane 5 containing juniors Sophia Sanders and Grace McGee and sophomores Sydney Chamberlain and River Hastings taking second place in the medley relay (2.17.08).
The meet surged on, with Conyers stealing first place in the 200 freestyle (2:11.46). Sisters C. Hastings and R. Hastings dominated the 200 individual medley placing first (2:34.12) and second (2:40.40), respectively.
The Lady Braves kept up the pace in the 50 freestyle where Campanelie stole first (26.83) and Sanders second (30.14).
After the 50 freestyle, the Lady Braves swam full force sweeping the places in the 100 butterfly with Pratt in first (1:05.51), C. Hastings in second (1:07.83) and sophomore Katia Marcus in third (1:20.35).
The girls would not let down their guard in the 100 freestyle resulting in Campanelie placing first (59.26) and Chamberlain placing third (1:07.89). And in the 500 freestyle McGee represented her team, pulling out third place (6:40.46).
The team continued to work hard in the 200 freestyle relay and Chamberlain, R. Hastings, Sanders and McGee earned first (1:57.50) and Pratt, C. Hastings and seniors Molly Houston and Logan Anderson finished in second (1:59.00).
Following the 200 freestyle relay, inclimate weather moved into the area forcing the cancellation of the remainder of the swim meet.
The senior night festivities moved to the freshman/sophomore cafeteria where the teams gathered to shared a meal. Then they congratulated seniors Anderson, C. Hastings, Houston, Pratt, Joscelin Riveros and Julianne Cheatham for their swimming careers.
The girl’s swim team beat Ocoee, 84-42. Come out and support the swim team as they compete at the Metro East Meet on Oct. 4, at 3:30 p.m. at Winter Park High School.
